iPad Bigger than Entire Firms in Revenue
The iPad is, by itself, bigger and more successful than entire companies hope to be skyrocketing Apple’s profits since its release.
According to 9to5mac, the iPad is scheduled to deliver Apple $20 billion of revenue in its first year of existence and most fortune 500 companies couldn’t match that success.
“If the iPad were a stand-alone company, it would rank within the fop third of the fortune 500.”
The tablet was launched April 3, last year, and according to CNBC, it outsold the DVD player’s adoption rate last year to become the fastest selling non-phone electronic product. An analyst was also quoted calling it a “runaway success.”
That crown was to be broken a few months later (last year) by Microsoft’s Xbox 360 add-on — the Kinect. However, it remains to be seen which of these electronic products will come out on top in their first year overall. Also, the fact remains both have been huge runaway success stories and aren’t really comparable products outside both being gadgets or electronic devices.
What will hold for the future of this tablet that Steve Jobs called “magical?” Will we be even more impressed by future versions and sales will continue to skyrocket? or is there too much competition on the horizon for Apple to keep the numbers going? With everyone excited about the specs and rumors for the successor I think it’s safe to say the tablet is becoming mainstream and here to stay.
