Xfinity TV App Just Updated to Include Streaming Shows and Movies on the iPad

For those with a Comcast subscription with the cable box and an iPad, the latest Xfinity TV app update will allow you watch streaming content directly on the device as long as you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network.

The selection is limited so far but will likely keep expanding with updated, according to PaidContent.

“The TV show and movie library is limited to some offerings from 10 cable networks for now but will increase with deals like the one announced Tuesday with Turner Broadcasting.

“Comcast plans to offer nearly 3,000 hours of video on demand via iOS and eventually Android-based tablets.”

According to the app description on the App Store, it seems the streaming feature is exclusive to iPad owners for now.

“

Playing content on your device requires an iPad and Wi-Fi Internet connection.

A strong Wi-Fi signal will provide the best performance.”

I tested the app myself just a few minutes before typing this up and have to say that the quality of the streamed content is really high. The image is very clear and fluid like if you were watching an iTunes movie. The stream seemed to load or buffer quite fast as well as I didn’t notice many of the hiccups or pauses I have with most streaming services, even Netflix, at times. However the selection is still limited and much of it consists of premium channels like HBO. There also aren’t any live channels yet.

Here are some images I took with the app to show the clarity of the image; and one pic I uploaded shows the navigation menu.

The only thing I’m not liking about this is the lack of the ability to watch live TV or recorded DVR events. That’s why I’m glad to be a customer and employee of DISH Network. Not only has DISH had a true TV Everywhere solution for quite some time, but it allows you to watch whatever programming you have whenever you want.
