GQ iPad Edition Sales Low, Publisher Remains Optimistic

Although it has been reported that only 365 people purchased the GQ, December 2009 Men of the Year, iPad Edition, the publisher remains in high spirits. “This costs us nothing extra: no printing or postage. Everything is profit, and I look forward to the time when iPad issue sales become a major component to our circulation.”

The digital print version of GQ Magazine for both the iPhone and iPad costs relatively low at $3, compared to TIME magazines $5. Perhaps, it is way too early in the game to gauge the impact of this new medium. Only time will tell as more magazines join the digital print line up. Glamour, The New Yorker and Wired magazines are all scheduled to hit the App Store shortly.

Of course sales are low. Digital magazines and newspapers better get a clue…it is much better to sell 100,000 subscriptions at 9.99 per year than 400 at 2.99 per issue. My house has 3 iPads and we refuse to put up with extortion by digital content providers for newspapers and magazines. I also have many friends that own iPads and feel the same.
