DJ World Studio for iPad Review

For those DJs and music lovers out there looking to spice up your iPads with more than just an iPod iTunes music library and want to actually mix some songs together into something unique — be sure to check out DJ World Studio by Little World Studio. Although I am not too familiar with remixes and club DJing, I found myself really drawn to this app and enjoying the content I created. There are just so many options and ways to manipulate sounds with the app it’s pretty mesmerizing. It also taught me a lot about real DJing as the app is advertised for both beginners and pros. DJ World Studio is a great way to learn the trade digitally first and practice for seasoned DJ artists. The app also really shines in the sense how intuitive it is and how it takes advantage of almost all corners of the iPad’s touchscreen.

Review
As a novice To the craft of being a DJ I started using the app without really knowing what I was doing. I soon discovered that it comes preloaded with many free songs already (30 to be exact) that can be started with the standard opening sign of an upward triangle with a bar below it (this is an icon on the app as well) used for many electronic gadgets today. It is located near the bottom of either of the two virtual CDs on the App’s tray. You can also start two songs at the same time like a real DJ and mix the tunes together. But this is only one feature of this great app as it has many options to fine-tune your music. You can even pause each song playing at any time and load new ones.

After trying the app out some more, I also found out that by using a finger to move the two sliders above the cd icons it changes the volume of each song playing. When pressing the single slider down below the cd images either toward the left-handed side and cd or the right-handed one, the intensity and volume of that particular song becomes clear and stands out over the other. And, when moving the two sliders in the middle of the screen that are parallel to each other and facing in a horizontal direction — you can change the speed of the songs playing.

Then there are the various effect icons near the top part of the screen that also allow different tunes and mixes to be added; to confuse novices like me even further. But this is a great thing as it shows just how thought out and developed the app is. You can almost take a single song and make something completely new out of it. Combined with another song from the list, the music could really be altered and turned into something unique. You can even run your finger down the cd to add scratching or turning and really get involved with the music.

Tell the truth I am not sure what all the icons and options do yet but am constantly learning and discovering new things about music and the process in creating remixes. The app description by Little World Studio says that “DJ World Studio is the first iPad DJ application to combine vinyl and CD control styles to suit every DJ.” Professionals should know what this means exactly and be able to find quite a lot of content here. By tapping on the cd images you can turn them around and play with the songs further.

The one negative aspect about this app is it turns off and has to be restarted if you try fast app switching or multitasking. This could be a memory (ram) constraint on the iPad however, and fixed for the iPad 2. However, it would be nice for current iPad owners to play their tunes in the background while surfing the Web.

Tips
Try out the various songs and beats presented in the menu of the app first to see what you like and want to mess with — the type of music your into. If you don’t find anything just upload some songs from iTunes. Learn to change the speed, volume, intensity and effects of a single cd spinning before messing with two simultaneously.

Recommendation
DJ World Studio is a great app for anyone interested in music at all and comes highly recommended for DJ fans, those wanting to learn how to DJ, seasoned DJers looking for new ways to spice up your skills and digitally remaster them. It is a great app for anyone who enjoys creating unique content and even app developers can find use from it — in the sense they can add music to their apps created through the remixes. The app isn’t cheap but worth the $20 asking price of the App Store.
