European Publishers Fail To Reach Deal with Apple

According to a report by The Bookseller, Apple continues in their struggle to reach a deal with European publishers for their iBookstore. Currently, the only titles available to iPad owners in Europe are from the Project Gutenberg’s collection of free classic books.

Hachette UK and Penguin are the only two publishers close to finishing their deal, while most do not even have one.

The report cites three obstacles. First, Apple only has two representatives for Europe, second; Apple’s insistence on pricing and third; some are questioning Apple’s legality in the agency model.

It’s too bad that Apple have not made the extra effort in reaching deals in time for the international release of the iPad. It’s time to hire more representatives and get these publishers on board.
