Greenopolis, a subsidiary of Waste Management, launched their social recycling app for iOS and Android called RecyclePix. We’re offering you the chance to try out the app and be one of the first to break the news.

The new app invites users to take pictures of themselves or their friends recycling. Sharing the pics on Facebook and Twitter documents users’ good deeds, inspires peers into action, and also earns users Greenopolis points that can be redeemed for real rewards like discounts at Domino’s Pizza and exclusive deals at Marriott Hotels. Each pic uploaded to RecyclePix earns 10 points plus 15 more when shared with friends, and 100 points can be redeemed for a “Buy One Taco, Get One Free” reward at Taco Bell or even 20% off your entire bill at participating seafood and steak houses. The press release appears below:

Houston, TX – (August 11, 2011) – Greenopolis, a subsidiary of Waste Management, today announced the release of RecyclePix, a new social recycling and photo sharing app for iOS and Android devices that rewards users for recycling and sharing their positive actions with friends.  The mobile application is the first of its kind – it documents a user’s good deeds, allows sharing through social networks to inspire peers into action, and rewards users for cleaning up the environment.  The addition of this mobile app rounds out the Greenopolis offering to make recycling an interactive, rewarding and shared community experience.

To use the app, users simply upload a photo of themselves recycling to instantly win Greenopolis Rewards Points.  Points can be exchanged for real rewards, such as discounts and coupons for entertainment, dining, travel, and more at retailers across the nation.  Users can also earn points through the app by voting on other photos and sharing their acts of recycling on Facebook and Twitter.  All points can be combined with those earned from participation in other Greenopolis social recycling endeavors.

“Greenopolis is a fantastic force for good because it channels some very instinctive, very human impulses towards the cause of sustainability,” said Paul Ligon, managing director at Greenopolis.  “Everyone wants to be included in a community; everyone enjoys entertainment and playing games; everyone wants to be rewarded and recognized for their actions.  So we’re very pleased to announce that this mobile app will extend our efforts to drive even more consumers to recycle and be rewarded for their actions anytime, anywhere, without making it feel like a chore.”

Greenopolis has made great strides in the sustainability movement by turning recycling into a fun, rewarding and engaging experience. Greenopolis encourages action through real rewards and social media, including their Facebook social game, Oceanopolis.  Greenopolis also offers location-based recycling options that promote recycling and award points through on-the-street interactive recycling kiosks, scan@school, work, and home applications, making it easier and more rewarding for the average person to live a sustainable lifestyle.  Greenopolis has inspired users to collect over 14 million recyclable items to this day since it began in 2007.
