Rogue Sky HD is an action game for the iPad that will have you weaving your hot air balloon through dangerous skies to collect energizing orange stars while destroying various obstacles in your way. While you will bounce off harmless pale clouds, the stormy dark clouds will strike you with lightning if you so much as graze against them. So you have to most carefully negotiate narrow bends around dark clouds. Other hazards include floating red mines and hostile air balloons. Your air balloon has a limited health and can only withstand a certain number of lightning strikes and other damage, but luckily, you can on occasion pick up extra health, represented by red hearts.

The controls allow for precision movements and consist of just two left and right buttons. Holding both simultaneously will propel the balloon directly upward, while holding just a single button will cause the balloon to move in the same direction. These same buttons, through a quick double tap, also allow you to fire shots at enemy balloons and other obstacles.

Rogue Sky HD is a breathtaking game. The graphics are simply gorgeous, and the music and gameplay combined make for an exciting and challenging adventure. Sometimes I found myself partly holding my breath while trying to clear an area. Although the game doesn’t feel rushed (there is no timer), it certainly will drop you in the seat of action. On top of all the fun contained within each level, you will also get to unlock and try different types of hot air balloons, each of which comes with its unique strengths and weaknesses.

Recommendation
Rogue Sky HD is most highly recommended to those who enjoy action games. While its pace is not frantic, the game is most definitely thrilling and well worth its price, at just $1.99 in the App Store.
