Peggle HD Review for iPad

PopCap’s popular casual game, Peggle, which was first released for desktop computers in 2007 followed by other devices such as game consoles, has finally arrived for the iPad. Reminiscent of pachinko, Peggle HD will have you shooting tiny balls at colored pegs in an attempt to clear as many as you can in order to earn the highest scores possible.

Review
For those who aren’t already familiar with the game, Peggle HD doesn’t just bear a resemblance to pachinko, but also brick-breaker games, for you’ll be clearing both round and rectangular pegs from the board with every strike of a ball. You’ll be shooting these balls out, one by one, from a nozzle centralized on the top. Each peg a ball touches will light up and eventually vanish. Your main objective is to remove all the orange pegs within each level, and any other colored pegs you remove will give you additional points. Certain special colored pegs, when hit, will give you extra points, extra balls, or power-ups (depending on the “Peggle Master” for the level).

The controls are simple and the balls are easy to aim, although except with the help of a power-up, it’s hard to predict where each ball will bounce after its first strike. This unpredictability adds to the fun and addictiveness of the game.

Peggle HD offers 11 stages comprising of five levels each. Aside from the main Adventure mode, three other game modes are available: Quick Play, Challenge, and a two-player Duel mode. The first and last allow you to play levels you’ve already unlocked in Adventure mode, while for the more advanced Challenge mode, you’ll have to complete all the levels in Adventure mode for either Peggle or Peggle Nights (available to unlock through an in-app purchase). All in, the graphics and gameplay are as fabulous as to be expected of a title as renowned as this.

Recommendation
Peggle HD is a must-buy for all fans of casual games, especially those who enjoy ball games like pinball and pachinko. Currently, Peggle HD is available in the App Store at a promotional price of $2.99.
