Are you a freelancer or consultant? If you are someone who needs to keep track of your working hours and expenses for a project, OfficeTime – Time & Expense Tracking by OfficeTime Software may come in handy for you. Previously only available for the PC and Mac, OfficeTime is now a universal app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

Review
OfficeTime – Time & Expense Tracking is catered especially to those who charge according to their time spent on a task. The app easily allows you to record your time for different aspects of a project, and keep track of multiple projects. In addition, you can also take note of your expenses.

Whether for the iPhone or iPad, the app is easy to use. Creating a new project is as simple as entering its name. To record the time you spend on something, you’ll just need to begin a session, which is essentially a timer that you can start and pause as and when needed, with a simple tap. Each session is tagged with the project it belongs to and an optional category. Categories allow you not only to track different tasks but also to specify different hourly rates for various tasks. If you have additional information to record, you can add notes to both projects and sessions. When working on a project you may incur certain expenses, such as transportation costs, etc, and OfficeTime also helps you take record these.

Overall, OfficeTime has an excellent UI and is functional in a most practical way. The app also looks good and is uncomplicated. Although it lets you juggle several projects, it simultaneously enables you to focus on just one task at a time. Best of all, you can switch from recording one task to another with just a single tap. When you are ready to check how much progress you’ve made, OfficeTime’s Reports can give you a summary of all the time you’ve spent on your various projects and tasks, as well as the amount you should (or will) earn.

OfficeTime may be synced with a PC or Mac (the desktop software is available for separate purchase from http://www.officetime.net). Unfortunately, at this current moment, OfficeTime will not sync between different iDevices even though it is a universal app. Hopefully a cloud syncing feature will be added once iOS 5 arrives.

Recommendation
OfficeTime – Time & Expense Tracking is well recommended to those who need to keep a close watch on the time they spend on one or more tasks. It can be especially helpful if you’re a freelancer or consultant who bills your clients by the hour. This productivity app is currently available in the App Store for $7.99.
