DrawRace 2 HD Review for iPad
How fast can you race your finger? DrawRace 2 HD by Chillingo will put your finger dexterity to the test. Instead of tilting your device or maneuvering with a virtual D-pad to steer your vehicle, you’ll be tracing out lines along various winding tracks. It’s intrinsically simple, yet it isn’t so easy to speed ahead to become the top draw racer.
Review
DrawRace 2 HD for the iPad is, as its title suggests, a car racing game, but with a difference, for you’ll be sketching your driving route and speed before each race. Just like in other racing games, you’ll have to slow down before every sharp turn or risk skidding off course. Also, you’ll have to plan your optimum course. How fast your car goes will largely depend on the speed at which you draw the racing line with your finger. Other factors include your vehicle’s performance specs, as well as when you boost the car with the turbo button, which will recharge between boosts.
This game developed by RedLynx is the sequel to DrawRace, originally released for the iPhone in mid-2009. The new and improved DrawRace 2 HD is, however, the first of its type for the iPad.
DrawRace 2 HD has amazing 3D graphics, spot-on racing physics, and apt sound effects. The cars are so small they’re reminiscent of toy cars, but each handles differently, and as you win races you’ll unlock new cars, which you’ll get to test drive on new tracks. Challenges abound, for the tracks will stretch your drawing skills not only with winding turns but also ramps and a variety of terrains, from dirt to snow. Although your main aim will be to win over your immediate opponents and grab the gold, you can also compare your race time for each track against a global leaderboard on Crystal. While it may be relatively easy at times to get that gold medal, you’ll find it’s a real challenge to become the true champion. In some races, you’ll not only have to speed ahead but also pop balloons. This forces you to focus on your drawing accuracy.
Aside from the single player campaign mode, which offers over 180 racing challenges, you may also race against friends (either on the same device or via Game Center) and strangers in the World League.
Recommendation
DrawRace 2 HD is most highly recommended for racing enthusiasts. Even if you’re not a fan of other racing games such as the typical tilt-control based ones, you should still by all means give DrawRace 2 a spin. This game for the iPad is currently available in the App Store for $2.99.
