Converter Plus Review for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad

If you’re looking for an app to aid you in calculations or unit conversions, it’ll be hard to find many better than Converter Plus (Universal) by TranCreative Software. It not only comes packed with a comprehensive array of categories, including currency conversions, but also enables you to create your own templates and download yet more shared by other users.

Review
Converter Plus (Universal) is a utility app that seems capable of meeting everyone’s needs in a unit converter, especially since it also comes with various calculation tools. Over 100 types of converters/calculators are offered within the app, and you may also download more. It is likely though that you’ll find more than you need.

Examples of tools include currency conversion, a sales tax calculator, tip calculator, loan calculator, price comparison, lots of different unit converters (e.g. area, length, temperature, velocity, etc), a recipe scaler, etc. The currency converter provides you access to exchange rates for 167 world currencies, which are automatically updated every six hours or on command. With the numerous conversion tools offered, the app would be a mess to navigate if it didn’t have a way to let you choose which ones you’d like to view. Converter Plus does this by means of “Favorites”. For any category or items within a category, you can favorite as many as you like. To view your favorites, you will then have to select the appropriate tab (either Favorites or Starred).

Should you not be entirely satisfied with what’s already provided, you can edit any converter’s template or put together your own, which is where Converter Plus truly wins over other similar apps. For each template, you have the choice of adding linear rules (for conversions) or formula rules (for calculations). Of course, in order to make a template that works, you’ll need to know how to do the necessary calculations on paper—or at least come up with the correct formulae. If figuring out calculations is beyond you, you can always browse the online templates, as it’s very possible someone may have shared what you’re looking for.

Recommendation
Converter Plus (Universal) is most highly recommended to those looking for a comprehensive unit converter that can also handle calculations. This utility app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad is currently available in the App Store for $1.99. If you’re unsure about this, you can try out Converter Plus (iPhone/iPod Touch) [free], which is, as indicated in its app name, free to download. But it will cost you $0.99 in IAP to remove the ads, so I advise purchasing the universal version instead.

Do note there is another app by another developer, also called Converter Plus, but it pales in comparison to the above app by TranCreative. So don’t make the mistake of clicking Buy for the wrong item!
