iDownloader Pro – Universal Downloader & Download Manager is a universal app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Its title is self-explanatory. iDownloader provides you with a smart browser that gives you popups with download options when they’re available. It’s fairly simple to use. You just have to tap (or tap and hold) on a link to a downloadable file.

The browser supports bookmarks, which you can sort however you wish, and you can download up to 10 files simultaneously, even in the background. Downloads are also resumable, so you won’t have to worry if you suddenly lose your internet access. File management is excellent. You can create folders and sub-folders, move, rename, and delete files. Most impressive is iDownloader’s ability to handle zipped files. It is a bit of a pity though that other formats of compressed files are not currently covered, such as .rar. One other benefit about iDownloader is that you can open files in Dropbox (if installed on your device) or other compatible apps, depending on the file type.

iDownloader Pro works most of the time and for most sites, except Youtube due to the site’s terms. Should you face any difficulty obtaining the appropriate download popup, you should try visiting the mobile version of the site, if available. For instance, downloading from Dailymotion only works if you visit their iPhone site. This is something to keep in mind if you’re using an iPad. As for videos, you can only download and play mp4 files, which is whatever you can view in Safari. So if you want to play other video formats, you’ll have to use a dedicated video app, some of which come with their own downloading capabilities. Overall, iDownloader Pro is an excellent downloader app that has some extra features (such as “Open in”) that not all other similar apps offer.
