Bongiorno – Good Morning! is the latest app from developers at faqden.com who are generally known for their MIT-tested educational apps. This free app is quite different from those offerings. It focuses on giving you daily updates. The updates range from news to weather, tweets and alarm. This app essentially turns your iPad into a personal digital assistant.

You can use this app in a variety of ways. The home screen takes you to a gorgeous image select by the app itself. From there you can navigate various menus and settings. You can also enter your location and the app will recognize various settings related to wherever you are.

You can get weather updates by clicking on the weather icon near the top of the display. You can even get forecasts and find out the weather in other locations by entering a different zip code in settings. The settings also allow you to add features like an alarm clock and time zones.

There is also a news icon near the top of the display that allows you to get RSS feeds of various news stories. You can read the stories with Bongiorno right in the app itself and without having to navigate other (external) sites. You can add various news categories to the app as well. To do this, you have to locate and RSS feeds of the source sites and blogs you want to read stories from.

A sleep icon also exists that will dim the iPad’s display and if you have alarm clock set up, wake you up later. Also, Twitter is available in this app. Near the upper right side of the display, there is a small Twitter drop-down menu that will allow you to tweet on the fly. You can add your account and password directly from the app and tweet without having to open Safari. You can even sign up for a Twitter account from this menu.

What is interesting is how the image on the home screen changes depending on a few factors, like the weather near you. Also, there are icons near the bottom of the screen that directly display the weather, date and time. If you click on them, customization settings appear. An icon showing a cup of coffee will take you to the RSS feed section of the app. Near the center a clock shows you the time and if you click on it you can select alarm clock settings.

This app is great for a variety of purposes. It conglomerates RSS feeds, weather, time, alarm clock and more. Instead of having to multitask between other apps, you can do all these things right from the Bongiorno’s home screen. If you love to get great updates about your location or make iPad multitasking easier, I highly recommend you check out Bongiorno. I also highly recommend this app for travel.
