In a media event held today in Sydney, Australia, Rupert Murdock, chairman of News Corps., cited once again the importance of the Apple iPad and similar tablets to the future of publishing.

Although sales figures for his paid apps were not disclosed, he did say it was in the “tens of thousands.” It is projected that Apple will sell more than 40 million iPad units by 2012 and News Corps plans to completely take full advantage of this new medium.
