Moscow, Russian Federation – ABBYY(R), a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies, today announced the availability of the newest version of ABBYY FineScanner for iOS, a handy application to quickly scan images and text using the Apple iPhone(R). Based on the next generation of ABBYY’s own technology for advanced image processing on mobile platforms, FineScanner 2.0 sets a new benchmark for scanning capabilities and delivers high-resolution results for a diversity of printed and hand-written sources. Speedy and extremely easy-to-use, it virtually turns iPhone devices into portable scanners, with instant response to various scanning tasks.

Delivering a set of advanced image filters, FineScanner 2.0 allows users to obtain sharp, high-contrast scans in color and grayscale versions, as well as to zoom in any area of the screen for better viewing. With its advanced automatic cropping, iOS customers can now quickly crop the image to the needed part by cutting off the “unwanted” background such as a table or other surfaces. The latest version comes with a completely renewed intuitive interface, offering easy navigation and management of multi-page documents. In addition, the new “Best-shot” feature chooses the best snapshot out of the three taken in a row to be processed automatically.

“The mobile scanning market is getting “mature” very fast, and we keep raising the bar for the quality of scans obtained. Our new FineScanner 2.0 is capable of turning original documents into high visual quality PDF and JPEG files for easy and secure information exchange”, explained Katya Solntseva, director of mobile platform products department at ABBYY.

The new version can be extremely helpful in scanning a variety of information sources including paper documents, hand-written texts, PC screens, and whiteboards. With FineScanner 2.0 at hand, lawyers can easily scan and study cases at court; managers are able to make copies of bills and invoices in business trips or collect posters and catalogues available at displays and exhibitions; and so on. These optimized high quality images can be instantly shared via e-mail, printed out or trusted with online file storages for backup and synchronization.
