LuMini-ImageThe Lumen product line is expanding. Today the LuMini, a smaller and more affordable version of the Lumen TL800, is available for pre-order on Kickstarter. The Lumen TL800, available on Amazon, is an app-enabled Bluetooth smart bulb. The team at Tabu took feedback about the TL800 into consideration and set out to create a smaller, more flexible and more affordable version; thus, the LuMini was born.

“Our goal is to make smart lighting accessible to everyone,” said Tabu CEO Kevin So. “LuMini is going to transform the concept of the smart bulb from the bulb of tomorrow to the bulb of today and every day.”

More for mood lighting and fun than its big brother, the LuMini is an LED RGB (Red, Blue and Green) bulb. The LuMini is 50% smaller than traditional LED bulbs. It will come with E12, E14, E17, E27 andE26 standard sockets, so it will fit most lamps.

With funds raised from the Kickstarter campaign, Tabu will complete the firmware design and production molding and increase Android device compatibility. Currently, Lumen works with Nexus 7 (with Android 4.3) and S4 (with Android 4.2). Recent models of the Lumen TL800 and the LuMini are compatible with Samsung phones with Android 4.3 and above.

Similar to the TL800, the LuMini uses Bluetooth Smart, and can be used anywhere there is a socket. The only tools needed are the bulb and Lumen’s proprietary app, currently available for Apple and some Android models. Simply download Lumen’s proprietary app, plug in the bulb and light up the room. The app turns both the TL800 and LuMini into a smart bulb with various modes for different occasions, including party mode, wake up mode, music sync mode, romance mode, and relaxation mode. The app has a proximity sensor and can be set to notify users of incoming calls.

Pledges start at $25 for LuMini for the first 200 backers. The different pledge levels reach to $85 for a Lumen TL800 and a LuMini. Estimated delivery on the project is April 2014.
