Speck SeeThru Satin Review for iPad
Along with seven other Apple iPad-centric products, the case experts Speck have released the new SeeThru Satin, a new hard case for the iPad. The snap-lock hard case gives your iPad back a strong level of protection, and also features a flip-back panel to allow for connecting with the Apple Keyboard. If you are consistently beating up your electronic devices, Speck’s new SeeThru Satin may be the fit for you.
Review
The Speck SeeThru Satin iPad case is a pretty nifty product. At first, with little to no flexibility in the case, you may wonder how your iPad will fit into it, but when you bring the device to the case, it will pretty much just snap in place with a fairly low amount of elbow grease.
One of the main features, that I immediately noticed, is the flip-back panel that allows the iPad to connect with the docking Apple Keyboard. So far, this is the first case that I have used that allows keyboard docking without needing to remove the entire case to do so. As someone who frequently docks with my iPad keyboard, this is a huge plus, and it saves me from having to wipe down my iPad from the loads of fingerprints every time I remove it from the case.
Similarly to Speck’s PixelSkin case, the SeeThru Satin does not protect the iPad’s touchscreen glass, which is a bit of a drawback for me. However, using Speck’s anti-glare no-smudge plastic screen protector, the ShieldView, should take care of this vulnerability and give you the confidence to leave your iPad in your bag without fear of scratching it.
Tips
1. Pair SeeThru Satin with the ShieldView. Like I’ve mentioned before, if you pair these two products together, it’s pretty much makes your iPad indestructible.
2. Use the flexible parts of the case, near the volume buttons, to get the iPad on and off. It may seem awkward to yank your device out of this case after it’s already on (it’s pretty sturdy once it’s on!), but if you pull the flexible part of the case (by the volume buttons) it should give the iPad some room to move and escape from the case.
Recommendation
If you like hard-shell device cases, the SeeThru Satin may be the one for you. It has a soft but grippy coating over the hard-shell and has the ever-important flip-back panel for easy docking access. At $49.95, it’s still priced better than the Apple case, but does not cover the glass. If you want to show off your personality a little bit, the case comes in a few colors: black, blue, and purple.
