If you’re still in the market to find the perfect case to protect your iPad, you may want to check out the latest case offering by Speck, the CandyShell. It offers both hard and soft protection for your device, providing a hard plastic exterior with a soft, rubbery interior to help absorb hard impacts. Let’s check it out.
Review
Speck CandyShell for iPad is made from a hard plastic which fully cover the iPad’s back and sides including the device’s volume controls and on/off switches. The rotation lock and headphone jack have been left exposed to provide easy access to these controls. However, in my observation, you may experience some difficulty in getting your fingers on the rotation control switch from the small opening made available by the case.
The CandyShell provides a flip open panel in the back of the case to allow for easy docking with the Apple dock without having to remove the case. However, for those who do not use the dock, this feature will prove to be more of an annoyance as the back panel will still need to be unhinged to allow access for the cable.
The rubber lining in the interior of the case provides a good amount of shock absorption and will not scratch your device. The glossy exterior, as in my glossy Batwing Black sample, although beautifully designed and sleek, attracts smudges and unfortunately, scratches. Therefore, you will need to be careful where you rest your iPad so you don’t loose that shiny exterior.
The display is fully exploded in the CandyShell but combined with Speck’s ShieldView screen film, an anti-glare, static-cling screen protector for $24.95, which can be removed and repositioned, will help protect your display from smudges and scratches.
Recommendation
Speck’s CandyShell case is recommended for iPad owners who sync and charge their devices with Apple’s iPad Dock. This will keep your iPad protected, allowing easy dock access without ever having to remove the case to do so. The CandyShell case for iPad is available through Speck’s website in five different colors for $49.95.
