According to a report published by Vimov, developer of top ten app, Weather HD for iPad, Apple is banking $372,000 a day in iPad apps. They arrived at this figure using their own weather app as a base. Weather HD, made specifically for the iPad, was among among the first apps that hit the App Store on launch day.
Weather HD was reported to have been downloaded 3,500 times after the launch and currently holds the number five spot in the top paid apps category. Developer Vimov stated, “This high-start, dive, and then jump, while surely affected our sales, gave us the ability to see how sales were at various spots in the App Store’s charts, and with a bit of maths, and by correlating Weather HD’s sales and ranks, to the ranks of other applications, and mixing in the numbers from Apple’s Top Grossing list, we were able to have a good estimate on basically how much money is flowing in the App Store!”
If their estimates are correct, the top 1,000 iPad apps had earned more than $372,000 a day as of last week with a calculated annual market which could potentially reach an astonishing $136 million in its first year or $272 million when international users get in on the action.
