Last month, we informed you of the band, Gorillaz’ latest project and how they were using frontman Damon Albarn’s Apple iPad to record the new album. Today, we learn from Jamie Hewlett, co-founder of the band, that they will be giving away the new album as a free download, a gift to their fans on Christmas Day, along with a free video of one of the songs from the album on Christmas Eve.

Ping Makes an Appearance on the iPad

The iPad’s iTunes app now includes Ping, Apple’s new music social network. Ping allows you to follow your favorite artists/friends and see what music they’re listening to. Ping on your iPad now appears on its own tab in between TV Shows and Podcasts with features similar to those found in the computer version of the application.

Gorillaz co-creator Damon Albarn loves his iPad so much that he decided to use the device to record their next album, a follow-up to Plastic Beach. Albarn states, ” I’ve made it on an iPad – I hope I’ll be making the first record on an iPad and adds, “I’ve made a completely different kind of record.” The band plans on releasing the album around the holiday season.

From the makers of the Ocarina, Leaf Trombone and I Am T-Pain for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Smule has developed a dedicated iPad app, Magic Piano, for the piano music lover in us. My first experience with this app came from watching a YouTube video that was posted of pianist Lang Lang, who in a concert, came out toting an iPad and played Flight of the Bumblebee as his encore performance. So, as a piano music fan, I had to try it out for myself.
