Apple has just confirmed the death of Apple co-founder and former CEO, Steve Jobs. He has long struggled with pancreatic cancer and had recently stepped down from his post due to his deteriorating health. He was 56 years old.

Apple did not introduce the iPhone 5 as anticipated, but instead unveiled the iPhone 4S. Both GSM and CDMA compatible, the iPhone 4S comes with a dual core graphics card, which according to reports, is 7 times faster than its predecessor, an 8-megapixel camera (60% more pixels), and all powered by the new A5 chip.

According to a recent report by AllThingsD, the much anticipated iPhone 5 media event will be held on Tuesday, October 4th. Tim Cook, Apple’s new CEO is expected to present the latest generation iPhone and all other new products from here on out. Sources also add that the new iPhone 5 will be made available to the public within a few weeks after the event.

CUPERTINO, California—August 24, 2011—Apple’s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.
